My name is Samantha Gibson and I am currently a communications intern for the Girl Scouts of Central
California South. I am also a Girl Scout alumna and was a proud member of San Diego Troop 4084,
for nine years.
My favorite experience as a Girl Scout was my yearly adventure to Girl Scout summer
camp. It brought new friends, sing-alongs, and campfires. As a young girl, I counted down the days until
summer camp rolled back around and I once again got to experience something new. I also looked
forward to cookie sales every January (but then again, doesn’t everyone)! My troop would have such a
great time developing new sales strategies and making cookie sales a fun time. No matter what event
or activity we were attending, we always had a fun time.
Although at the time I didn’t know it, I have learned that my experiences with Girl Scouting have made me who I am today! Even though it has been over eight years since we were in a troop together, the girls of Troop 4084 still keep in touch and support each other. Today, I am a senior agriculture communications major at Fresno State. I work as a news assistant for Fresno State University communications and I am also the children’s director of Quail Lake Community Church. I attribute many of my program ideas and leadership skills to my time as a Girl Scout. It is safe to say that I would not be the woman I am today; If I wasn’t the Girl Scout I was then.
Once a Girl Scout, Always a Girl Scout.
