IMAGINE A DAY THAT... turns the Fresno Fairgrounds into a small world for the girls of the Central Valley! As the children enter the world
-
they donate their toiletry items that benefit local foster families. At the
entrance each child is issued a passport to "travel" the world.
During the opening ceremony there is a Parade of Nations. Then the girls travel
to each country booth,
where
they learn a phrase from that language, participate in an activity
and have their passport stamped before they travel to their next destination. As
they
journey from place to place they enjoy entertainment on various
stages:

History of World Thinking Day at Girl Scouts of Central California SouthWorld Thinking Day is a celebration of our diversity. Through Girls Scouts of Central California South, more than 4,000 Girl Scouts from the Central Valley research a day in the life of a child from 80 countries around the world, create interactive exhibits that depict the child's life, perform music, dance, and tell stories.
1st Annual World Thinking Day March 1, 2008, Fresno Convention Center. 3,000 attended, 52 countries. Theme: Helping girls make the right choice in life. Rotary International teamed up with the Girl Scouts to make 1,000 WAPIs (Water Pasteurization Indicators). Collected 3,000lbs of food for Fresno Community Food Bank.
2nd Annual World Thinking Day February 28, 2009, Fresno Convention Center. 4,300 attended, 73 countries. Theme: We can stop the spread of AIDS, malaria, and other diseases. A penny drive benefiting Malaria no More helped provide vulnerable children in Africa with mosquito nets. Collected 3,500lbs of food for Fresno Community Food Bank.
3rd Annual World Thinking Day February 27, 2010, Fresno Convention Center. 5,425 attended, 82 countries Theme: Girls worldwide say, 'Together we can end extreme poverty and hunger' - raised awareness with Heifer International about poverty and how we can improve the lives of families and children here at home and around the world. Collected 4,375lbs of food for Fresno Community Food Bank.
4th Annual World Thinking Day February 26, 2011, Fresno Fairgrounds. 2,800 attended, 85 countries. Theme: Girls worldwide say... 'Empowering girls will change our world.' Partnered with CARE International to invest in girls and women to benefit whole communities around the world. Collected 6 super-large boxes of toiletries for Angels of Grace foster care agency.
And in 2012 - 5th Annual World Thinking Day February 25, 2012, Fresno Fairgrounds. 4,000 expected, 100 countries. Theme: Girls worldwide say... 'We can save our planet' - inspiring girls to improve the environment through the Girl Scouts Forever Green Take Action Project. Penny drive to support global families who do not have access to clean water and electricity. Toiletry donations to support local families.
