Gold Award Scholarships

Thanks to generous support and donors from our community, Girl Scouts of Central California South have scholarship opportunities for Girl Scouts who have achieved the highest award a Girl Scout may recieve. Girl Scouts of Central California South currently has four scholarships avaliable for Gold Award Girl Scouts. Gold Award projects must be sustainable and approved by the Gold Award Advisory Committee of the Girl Scouts of Central California South.

Currently, Girl Scouts of Central California South offers four scholarships.
The deadline for the 2020 Girl Scout Gold Award scholarships is Friday, January 31, 2020 at 5:00 PM.

STEM Endowment Scholarship

The Anonymous STEM Endowment Scholarship shall be awarded to one or more Gold Awardees each year who intend to major in STEM at an accredited college or university

The amount of the scholarship(s) each year will be at least $5,000 in total. The scholarship(s) shall be paid from the earnings on the endowment fund as determined by their fair market value as of December 31st of each year. Disbursement of the funds will take place June 1st of each year. In the event that the available earnings of the fund are less than $5,000, the shortfall will be made up by the council’s unrestricted operating budget.

Student must be registered or register as a full-time student at an accredited community college or four (4) year college or university within three months of receiving the scholarship.

The recipient of the scholarship(s) must:

a.    Apply for the scholarship within five years after completing her Gold Award or Senior Year in High School (whichever comes later);

b.    Be a registered girl or adult member of Girl Scouts of Central California South at the time of applying for the scholarship and while receiving the scholarship;

c.    Have a declared major in the field of STEM;

d.    Demonstrate financial need for scholarship assistance;

e.    Attend a two-year or four-year college or university; and

f.     Use funding for tuition, books, supplies, or projects related to coursework.

As a condition of receiving the scholarship(s), each recipient shall write a brief summary of how the scholarship assisted them, attend the Highest Awards Ceremony, and submit a photo, video, and written testimonial of the impact of the scholarship on their life and career to be used for promotional purposes.

Applications will be due on or before January 31, 2020. Final Gold Award projects must be approved prior to Scholarship Application deadline. Scholarship finalists will be notified by February 28, 2020. Interviews will be conducted the week of March 9th, 2020. Scholarship recipient(s) will be selected by March 27, 2020.  The scholarship(s) will be given to the selected recipient(s) at the Gold Award Luncheon that is held annually on the second Saturday of May.

If awarded the scholarship, the funds will be deposited directly into the students account at the college or university they are/will be attending.

After completion of their scholarship year, the student(s) must submit a summary of their achievements during that scholarship year to the CEO of Girl Scouts of Central California South.

The Marvin and Tish Meyers Agricultural Endowment Scholarship

The Marvin and Tish Meyers Agricultural Endowment Scholarship shall be awarded to one or more Gold Awardees each year who are pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Agriculture at an accredited college or university

The amount of the scholarship(s) each year will be at least $5,000 in total. The scholarship(s) shall be paid from the earnings on the endowment fund as determined by their fair market value as of December 31st of each year. Disbursement of the funds will take place June 1st of each year. In the event that the available earnings of the fund are less than $5,000, the shortfall will be made up by the council’s unrestricted operating budget.

a.    Apply for the scholarship within five years after completing her Gold Award or Senior Year in High School (whichever comes later);

d.    Submit a statement as to why they have chosen Agriculture as their future career;

e.    Provide two letters of recommendation that support their intent to study Agriculture. (This letter may come from FFA mentor, high school counselor, agriculture teachers or professors, or a Girl Scout project mentor.)

f.     Demonstrate financial need for scholarship assistance;

g.    Attend a two-year or four-year college or university; and

h.    Use funding for tuition, books, supplies, or projects related to coursework.

SCCCD Endowment Scholarship

The SCCCD Endowment Scholarship shall be awarded to one or more GSCCS alumni or current girl members each year who are or will be studying at a campus within the State Center Community College District.

Unlike the other endowments, the SCCCD Endowment is managed by the SCCCD Foundation and is not an asset of, or included in the financial statements for, Girl Scouts of Central California South.

The amount of the scholarship(s) each year will be determined based on investment earnings as stipulated by the SCCCD Foundation.

The recipient of the scholarship(s) must:

a.    Apply for the scholarship within five years after completing her Gold Award or Senior Year in High School (whichever comes later);

b.    Be a registered girl or adult member of Girl Scouts of Central California South at the time of applying for the scholarship and while receiving the scholarship;

c.    Demonstrate financial need for scholarship assistance;

d.    Attend a campus of SCCCD; and;

e.    Use funding for tuition, books, supplies, or projects related to coursework.

The Hina Patel Health and Wellness Endowment Scholarship shall be awarded to one or more Gold Awardees each year who intend to major in health and/or wellness at an accredited college or university.

The amount of the scholarship(s) each year will be determined based on the available investment earnings of the endowment fund; there shall be no minimum distribution amount. The scholarship(s) shall be paid from the earnings on the endowment fund as determined by their fair market value as of December 31st of each year. Disbursement of the funds will take place June 1st of each year.
