The swimming pool and summertime are always a key part of a child’s summer. But not everyone is up to date on their water safety skills. Girl Scout Ambassador, Maggie, put together a workshop to teach kids how to be safe around the water and in their pools at home. She hosted the Water Safety class on Saturday July 28 at the Wasco Veterans’ Hall for kids ages 6-10. The seminar was free to attend.
Maggie is a Ambassador Girl Scout at Girl Scouts of Central California South. The Water Safety class was an event she put on for her Gold Award project. The Gold Award focuses on the interests of older Girl Scouts (grades 9 – 12) and their personal journey to build leadership skills, explore future careers, and advocate for others. The girls research a community issue, develop a plan, and work towards inspiring others to take action in resolving the identified issue.
Though it has changed names over the years, the Girl Scout Gold Award has been the organization’s highest award since 1916. It represents excellence and leadership for girls everywhere!
