Girl Scouts to honor Linda Danna

Linda is being awarded a special Community Take Action Award in recognition of her  hands-on leadership and personal commitment to community service and  improving the lives of hundreds of families in the south Central Valley.

Linda will receive her award at the Girl Scouts of Central California South 100th anniversary Gala on August 25th at the Clovis Veterans’ Memorial Building. “Linda has been a huge supporter of not only the Girl Scouts but the entire Fresno community in so many ways. Linda encourages countless others to lend a hand by leading the way herself. She is truly an amazing woman, and her love for her community is inspirational. We are honored to award Linda with our Community Take Action Award at our 100th Anniversary Gala,” stated, CEO, Cathy Ferguson.

Linda Danna’s professional career began after she graduated from the University of Texas,  Austin, where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Radio, Television & Film, along with minors in Political Science and Spanish. Her major step into the world of broadcasting was as an Account Executive for KHOU-TV, a CBS affiliate in Houston Texas, where she was nominated as an Outstanding Television Account Executive by American Women in Radio & Television (AWRT). Later, she became the Local Sales Manager for KTXA-TV in Dallas Texas, and was nominated as an Outstanding Television Sales Manager by AWRT. Linda was the Vice President & General Manager of Seltel / Millennuium – Dallas, a National Rep Firm that sells on behalf of 140 television stations nationwide. After Dallas, Linda returned to Houston as Director of Sales for KTXH-TV, home of the Houston Rockets and Astros televised broadcasts.

Shortly thereafter, Linda became the Senior Vice President & General Manager for WUPA-TV in Atlanta, Georgia. Under her leadership, the station was the inaugural National “UPN Affiliate of the Year”.  Linda was promoted by CBS to Senior Vice President & General Manager of WWJ-TV and WKBD-TV in Detroit Michigan. While there, Linda was named one of “Michigan’s 95 Most Powerful Women” and one of “Michigan’s Top Business Women.” Linda also served on the Michigan Association of Broadcaster’s Board.

In the fall of 2005 and throughout 2006, Linda took a break from broadcasting to care for her terminally ill Mother. In 2007, Linda returned to Television as Director of Sales / Interim General Manager of WOAI-TV in San Antonio, Texas, where she led the team that finished $1 million over budget.

Since September 2008, Linda has been the Vice President & General Manager at KGPE-TV, CBS47 in Fresno. Linda has served on the Girl Scouts of Central Valley board and the United Way CEO cabinet. Currently, Linda serves on the California Association of Broadcasters Board and is Vice President of the Fresno Compact Board. In 2011, she was honored to be a recipient of the Fresno Marjaree Mason Top Ten Professional Women of the Year Award.

Notable Community Accomplishments:

The “On Your Side” station, CBS47, lives their brand daily with 40 station sponsored community events in 2010 and 58 station sponsored community events in 2011. These events have benefitted the Fresno Rescue Mission, Community Food Bank, Central California Blood Center, Big Brothers – Big Sisters, Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity and others.

The CBS47 Volunteer Telethons doubled their goal of 47,000 hours 2 years in a row in conjunction with Hands on Central Valley and Serve Fresno. Fresno Mayor Ashley’s goal of 1 million volunteer hours was exceeded with the commitment from the CBS47 team.

August 2011 Community Drive – approximately 180,000 books donated by the community to benefit the Fresno County Public Libraries. The subsequent book sale garnered over $35,000 for the County Libraries.

In January 2012, CBS47 produced and broadcast the first ever live Fresno Mayor’s Town Hall. The hour long television program was moderated by evening anchor, Ken Malloy and included interactive social media components with morning anchor, Zara Arboleda. Evening anchor, Evy Ramos, fielded questions from the studio audience.

In May 2012, CBS championed the largest National one day food drive – Stamp Out Hunger with nearly $50,000 in on-air resources in a 4 week campaign.

Regarding the Girl Scouts of Central California, CBS47 is a proud sponsor of World Thinking Day, Women Inspiring Girls Awards luncheon with video support, and the Cookie Classic Golf Tournament.

Over the last 3.5 years, under Linda’s leadership, CBS47 has donated in excess of $1 million dollars in terms of station on air commercials, production, news coverage, resources and paid volunteer hours for community needs and initiatives.
