Destinations - 39 Girl Scouts on Travel Adventure of a Lifetime in Central California
Fresno, California
39 Girl Scouts from 21 states and Puerto Rico* enjoyed a 10-day
travel experience of a lifetime in June 2011. hosted by Girl Scouts of Central California South, exploring the San Joaquin Valley, the Sierra Nevada Mountain Ranges and the Central California Coastline. The California Adventure... From Mountains to Sea is one of several
destinations open to Girl Scouts nationally, which provide travel opportunities for teenage girls to go somewhere new, meet new people and enjoy new experiences in a safe and supervised environment. As they explore new places and cultures, they gain more self-confidence and make new friends. The program helps girls gain leadership skills while enjoying valuable learning opportunities.
As part of the adventure, the girls spent an agricultural day in the Valley and visited The Fresno Bee, enjoyed the Monterey Bay Aquarium and Cannery Row, and explored the San Francisco Exploratorium, where they experienced the Tactile Dome. One of the girls, Lauren - known as LoMo - celebrated her 15th birthday while on the
destinations adventure.
The girls also went white water rafting at Mountain River Adventures in
Kernville, kayaking at Pismo Beach, had a fun day at McDermont Field House in Lindsay, visited
the Sutter Creek Gold Mine, went shopping at Gilroy Premium Outlet Mall, and learned
about sharks at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo.
