Global Green Team Take Action Project

In celebration of the Girl Scouts 100th anniversary, Alcoa Foundation in partnership with Girl Scouts of the USA and the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) launched the Global Green Team Partnership Program. This program “twins” 20 Girl Scouts councils in the U.S. and 20 Girl Guides member organizations in 13 countries who will work together on Global Green Team projects for two years. The girls will identify, lead and take action in three main environmental areas: reducing waste, saving energy and planting rain gardens.

As part of the twinning project, Girl Scouts of Central California South partnered with the Fresno Yosemite International Airport for their 2012 holiday display of trees. Displays feature recycled materials, based on the Girl Scouts Forever Green campaign, and will be on exhibit for the entire month of December at the airport. Local artists created beautiful designs for the holiday trees, based on the eco-friendly Forever Green theme.

Fresno-based Girl Scouts, the Global Green Team, designed a tree using recycled materials, titled “Renewing Friendship.” It showcases the global friendships we all share, and the environmental twinning partnership of local Girl Scouts with Girl Guides in Guinea. The tree’s concept abides by the Girl Scout law to “use resources wisely,” and “be a sister to every Girl Scout.” This tree represents different girls from around the world who share in the common beliefs of building girls of courage, character and confidence that make the world a better place. Photos of all the holiday trees can be seen at www.girlscoutsccs.org/airport-holiday-display.
