A Message from our CEO (Published July 29, 2020)
Dear Girl Scout Supporters,
These past several months have been uniquely challenging as we have
worked through the impacts of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic,
while pivoting and innovating to deliver new experiences, programs,
and opportunities for our Girl Scouts in a social-distancing
environment. Our Girl Experience team has launched hundreds of new
such programs – and we have even launched virtual summer camps and
created the national model for other councils to follow! I am both
proud and humbled by the vision and focus of our volunteers, staff,
and Board as we have worked to continue to bring the Girl Scout
mission to life in all corners of the Council footprint.
Through listening and learning from our girls, parents, and volunteer stakeholders, our Council made the intentional decision to live our mission by temporarily offering FREE Girl Scout memberships to all new girls that join Girl Scouts through September 30, 2020. This “gift of membership” campaign will provide membership in Girl Scouts for their first two years to girls that take advantage of it.
We launched this new campaign because we know that now more than ever, the girls of the Central Valley need Girl Scouts. At a time when school is remote, extracurriculars are curtailed, and in-person events are rare, Girl Scouts want to be there for all communities of the Central Valley by providing programming to all girls without cost. And yet, as you can imagine, there is a real cost to providing these experiences. It is only through the tremendous support of our donors and friends like you that we can financially support these efforts – and for that, I want to personally thank each individual and organization that has stepped up to financially support this effort. Your generosity is changing the lives of girls across the Central Valley for the better.
As we continue to forge ahead in these very uncertain times, we do so with a clarity of purpose that is integral to our work: to build girls of courage, confidence, and character who make the world a better place. I invite you to join us as we continue to change the world by supporting and developing the girls who represent our region’s future.
Yours in Girl Scouting,
Dr. Russel Statham, Chief Executive Officer
