Girl Scout Connect Program

Every year 5, 000 of the 10,000 girls we serve, enjoy a traditional Girl Scouts experience through our Girl Scout Connect program, AT NO COST TO THEIR FAMILIES. This program instills confidence, provides life and leadership skills, and improves the lives of girls who would not otherwise have this opportunity to reach their full potential. The girls learn to discover issues in their community that need to be addressed, connect and team up with others to determine ways to solve the issues, and then take action in order to make positive change.

Girl Scouts Connect uses national Girl Scouts curricula to teach leadership and life skills, including:

  • Increasing self esteem, and making wise choices;
  • Financial literacy and entrepreneurial opportunities;
  • Activities that focus on science, technology , engineering and math (STEM) as future career choices;
  • Living in wellness, healthy choices, physical fitness, obesity prevention, and safety;
  • Protecting our environment, sustainability, advocacy, and being model citizens;
  • Respecting others, embracing our heritage, and celebrating diversity,

Through the Girl Scouts Connect program, girls meet with trained mentors after-school or during the weekends at community centers. This program strengthens local communities, as community members become involved and learn the value of Girl Scouting, and then pass it on to future generations.

We continually train and mentor volunteer leaders, and work collaboratively with other local organizations to use resources more effectively (for example, to provide financial literacy workshops for girls, and banking workshops for the parents). Grants, sponsorships and donor funding help offset the costs of program delivery and cover program materials, Girl Scout sashes and badges.

How can I help?

Girl Scouts of Central California South partners with donors and grant funders to pay for the cost of the Girl Scouts Connect program, which covers curriculum development, materials, uniforms, transportation, facility rental and mentors’ salaries. The program directly assists the many families who cannot afford the $20 Girl Scout membership fee (paid directly to our national headquarters for program development and insurance).
