Become a Girl Scout Leader Checklist

 

1.  Complete each of the following forms:

•  Adult Membership Form (PDF)

 Volunteer Application

 Background Disclosure and Authorization form

 

2.  Attend New Leader Orientation, contact your Membership Development Specialist to schedule orientation

 

3.  View GSUSA’s Online Girl Scouting 101 orientation at the following website:

  http://training.girlscouts.org/

•  Password is aboutGS101 (case sensitive)

 

4.  Receive Appointment/Agreement confirmation from Council representative

 

5.  Register for and attend required training:

•  Leadership Essentials (LE1) – within 3 months of appointment

•  Program Level Training – within 6 months of appointment

 

6.  Meet and plan with Co-Leader, obtain Troop list from Council

 

7.  Hold parent meeting, register all troop/group girls and adult volunteers

 

8.  Make plans and hold first troop/group meeting

 

9.  Attend Service Unit meetings

 

10.  Complete all other required leader training:

 

Trip Planning:

-  prior to taking girls on certain field trips and overnight events

 

First Aid/CPR training:

-  required for most Girl Scout trips

 

Outdoor Training:

-  prior to taking girls on outdoor overnights or outdoor cooking

 

Extended Trip Planning:

-  prior to taking girls on trips lasting more than 72 hours

 

Enrichment Training:

-  classes are offered to enhance your Girl Scout leadership experience

 

Volunteer Carousel:

-  full-day of leader enrichment classes offered annually in the fall
