Adult Recognitions

Volunteers put in many hours on top of busy schedules and hectic lives – to be the cheerleader, guide, and mentor - helping girls develop crucial skills and confidence to launch them into a lifetime of leadership.

Help us recognize outstanding individuals year round!

Formal Recognitions

Nominate a special volunteer for an adult recognition. These range from National and Council Awards for volunteers, local Service Unit Awards, and other volunteer recognitions. View the awards to determine the best fit for your special person, and then submit your nomination. It's easy—just use the  Nomination Form!

Adult Recognition Forms are due by January 7, 2022.

Girl Scouts of the USA National Award

Volunteer of Excellence

The Volunteer of Excellence Award recognizes those volunteers who have contributed outstanding service while partnering directly with girls in any pathway to implement the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE) through use of the National Program Portfolio or who have contributed outstanding service in support of the Council’s mission delivery to girl and adult members.

Additional Criteria:

  • The nominee is a registered Girl Scout adult volunteer for the year of nomination
  • Service performed was beyond expectations for the position to deliver GSLE to girls in any pathway or supported Council goals in one or more of the following areas: Membership Development, Volunteer Support, Program, Leadership and Governance, Fund Development, and Council Support Services
  • Maximum of three recipients per Service Unit
  • Presented at Adult Recognitions Event 2021

Green Angel Award

The Green Angel Award recognizes those volunteers who have contributed a unique, innovative or creative service. The service provided must be something that has not been done before for Girl Scouts or is so outstanding that no other award is appropriate.

Additional Criteria:

  • The nominee is a registered Girl Scout adult volunteer for the year of nomination
  • Contributed a unique, innovative, or creative service  
  • Service must be something that has not been done before for Girl Scouts or is so outstanding that no other award is appropriate
  • Service given benefits at least one Service Unit, not just the Troop
  • Maximum of three recipients per Service Unit
  • Presented at Adult Recognitions Event 2021

Daisy Award

The Daisy Award recognizes those volunteers who have contributed continued inspiration to girls and adults for at least two adult years within Council Jurisdiction.

Additional Criteria:

  • The nominee is a registered Girl Scout adult volunteer for the year of nomination
  • Continued inspiration to girls and adults for at least two adult years within Council jurisdiction
  • Maximum of three recipients per Service Unit
  • Presented at Adult Recognitions Event 2021

Appreciation Pin

The Appreciation Pin is presented to someone whose service performed is above and beyond the expectations for the position held. They significantly contributed to meeting one or more Council goals in membership growth and retention, fund development, or increased community visibility. Their service given benefits at least one Service Unit within Council jurisdiction.

  • The nominee is a registered Girl Scout adult volunteer for the year of nomination
  • Service performed is above and beyond the expectations for the position held
  • Service given benefits at least one Service Unit within Council jurisdiction
  • Presented at Adult Recognitions event 2021

Honor Pin

The Honor Pin recognizes an individual’s exemplary service in support of delivering the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. This support has had measurable impact on two or more Service Units within Council jurisdiction.

  • The nominee is a registered Girl Scout adult volunteer for the year of nomination
  • Service performed is above and beyond the expectations for the position held
  • Service given benefits two or more Service Units within Council jurisdiction
  • Presented at Adult Recognitions event 2021

Thanks Badge

The Thanks Badge honors an individual whose ongoing commitment, leadership, and service have had an exceptional, measurable impact on meeting the mission-delivery goals and priorities of the entire Council or the entire Girl Scout movement.

  • Registered Girl Scout adult volunteer for the year of nomination
  • Service given benefits the entire Council or Girl Scout organization
  • Service performed is so significantly above expectations that no other award is appropriate
  • Presented at  Adult Recognitions event 2021

Thanks Badge II

This pin honors a previous Thanks Badge recipient who has continued to provide exemplary service in a leadership role, which resulted in a measurable impact benefiting the entire Girl Scout movement.

  • Registered Girl Scout adult volunteer for the year of nomination
  • Previous Thanks Badge award recipient
  • Continued to provide exemplary service in a leadership role that benefits the entire Council or Girl Scout organization
  • Service performed is so significantly above expectations that no other award is appropriate

Outstanding Service Award - Level I

The Outstanding Service Award Level One recognizes community partners that have given superior service and assistance to at least one Girl Scout troop with a meeting location.

Additional Criteria:

  • Community Partners that provide a troop or service unit a meeting location
  • Recipient will receive a plaque in recognition of their service to Girl Scouts of Central California South

Outstanding Service Award - Level II

The Outstanding Service Award Level Two recognizes community partners that have given superior service, contributions or assistance that benefit more than one Girl Scout Service Unit.

Additional Criteria:

  • Community Partners that provide a location or in-kind donation (food, supplies, etc.) for an event, program, training, etc.
  • Must benefit more than one service unit (such as community event)
  • Recipients will receive a plaque in recognition of their dedicated service to the Girl Scouts of Central California South

Girl Scouts of Central California South Council Awards

Leader of the Year

The Leader of the Year is presented to someone who has served as an exemplary role model for girls, demonstrating the Girl Scout Promise and Law and EPIC.

Additional Criteria:

  • The nominee is a registered Girl Scout adult volunteer for the year of nomination
  • Service given benefits at least one Troop within Council jurisdiction
  • Minimum of three continuous years as Troop Leader
  • Has served as an exemplary role model for girls in demonstrating the Girl Scout Promise and Law 
  • Nomination by the girls and parents of the Troop.
  • Two or more letters of endorsement
  • Participation in Council and/or Service Unit events
  • Financial reports submitted on time for all three continuous years
  • Additional service has been performed above Troop Leadership (such as SU Team position, hosted SU event, or served on a Council Committee)
  • Only one Leader of the Year presented each year.
  • Presented at Adult Recognitions event 2021

Family Award

The Family Award is presented to a family that supports Girl Scouts with outstanding volunteer service. The service given must be beyond normal expectations and benefit two or more Service Units within Council Jurisdiction.

Additional Criteria:

  • Nominated family has at least one active registered Girl Scout adult for the year of nomination
  • The family supports Girl Scouts with outstanding volunteer service, which is beyond normal expectations
  • Members of the family have provided continuous service for at least two years
  • Service given benefits the Service Units or community within Council jurisdiction
  • Presented at Adult Recognitions event 2021

Young Alum Shining Star

Girl Scouts is the premier leadership program for girls and where can we find better evidence of what Girl Scouting is all about than in our Young Alum. This award is for Girl Scouts who make the transition from girl to adult member and continue to be involved in the movement beyond high school, providing leadership to the next generation of G.I.R.L.s.

Additional Criteria:

  • At least 2 years of girl membership in the Cadette, Senior, or Ambassador Program Level
  • At least 2 years of adult membership since graduation in any GSCCS volunteer role
  • Current year membership and background check (if required for role)
  • Displays excellent service in delivering the Girl Scout Mission

Girl Scout of the Year

The Girl Scout of the Year exemplifies through both her words and actions the highest ideals of character, conduct, patriotism, and service. This person has held leadership positions in both Girl Scouts and the community and embodies the Girl Scout Promise and Law in everyday life. 

Additional Criteria:

  • Registered Senior or Ambassador Girl Scout member
  • Exemplifies through both words and actions the highest ideals of character, conduct, patriotism and service
  • Upholds the mission of Girl Scouts
  • Has held leadership positions in both Girl Scouts and the community
  • Embodies the Girl Scout Promise and Law both during Girl Scouts and day to day

Man Enough to Be a Girl Scout Award

This award recognizes our male volunteers that have gone above and beyond in service of Girl Scouts. Girls need all types of role models in their lives, including those that advocate for their interests, encourage them to dream big, and help them make a difference. These often behind-the-scenes heroes are no stranger to helping create cookie booth displays, providing support at camp, and are always willing to lend a helping hand. 

Additional Criteria:

  • The nominee is a male registered Girl Scout adult volunteer for the year of nomination
  • Supports Girl Scouts in any capacity who have gone above and beyond in service of Girl Scouts

Numeral Guard and Membership Years

Whether you’ve been girl scouting and / or volunteering for 5, 15, or 30 years we want you to proudly show your service. Forms are available online for the 2019/2020 Numeral Guard and Years of Service Pins. Numeral Guards and Years of Service Pins will be handed out at the 2021 Adult Recognitions Event.

The deadline for forms is November 30, 2020

Numeral Guards: Recognizes the number of combined Girl and Adult years as a registered member of Girl Scouts. Membership Numeral Guards for 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, and 30 years.

 

Years of Service Pins

Years of Service Pins: Recognizes years of Adult service as a registered member of Girl Scouts. Years of Service Pins for 5, 10, 15, and 20 years.

Individuals should work with their Service Unit Recognitions Chair (or appointee) to ensure accuracy and that there is no duplication
